The HIE is available to homeowners who have made a physical improvement to their property. Some example of improvements that would qualify: add/replace a deck, sunroom, finish a basement, addition to the home, or build a new garage. Adding new windows or replacing a roof are examples of things that do not qualify. If you are not sure if your improvement will qualify for this exemption, please call the office.
There is not an application for this exemption; we get most of the information from inspections and permits. With this exemption you may qualify for up to 25,000 in assessed value, or up to $75,000 in Market Value. This exemption is good for 4 years and the value of the improvement will be added into the assessment on the 5th year.
