Veterans Exemptions

RETURNING VETERANS EXEMPTION (NEW IN 2007)

Any Veteran returning from active duty in an armed conflict involving the Armed Forces of the United States is able to receive a 5,000 reduction in assessment for only the year in which the veteran returns. The property must be the Veteran's primary resident and they must be owner of record.

 Homeowners can apply for this exemption at our office or the applications can be printed from the DuPage County web site.

DISABLED VETERANS EXEMPTION (NEW IN 2007)

Veteran with service-connected disability certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs. With a disability of 50% but less than 75% the exemption is 2,500. A disability of 75% or more is 5,000. Applicants will need to provide a copy of their DD214 that has been certified, and Disability Certification letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs for the current assessment year. An unmarried surviving spouse may also qualify for this exemption.
